Drone delivery in prison: the prison administration says it is tackling this scourge
Correctional Service Canada says it is taking numerous steps to combat the "evolving threat" of drones delivering contraband to prisons from the air.
British Columbia correctional officers staged a protest in Abbotsford on Thursday to draw attention to the violence they say is fueled by this aerial smuggling of weapons and drugs.
The Correctional Service says in a written statement that it uses a multi-layered approach to respond to airdrops. This includes procuring drone detection equipment and piloting a program using cell phone detection technology.
The agency also says it uses body-scanning detectors and trained dogs to detect electronic devices, and is improving infrastructure in federal prison facilities.
