Drones to fight forest fires

Close lylinked to climate change, forest fires are increasing in number and intensity. They require considerable resources to bring them under control, including helicopters. Since helicopters are overloaded and can only be used during theday, the drone is becoming a very interesting complementary tool for carrying out thermography missions following fires, to validate whether the disaster hasbeen definitively extinguished.

"Exo Drone is a center of expertise and innovation in drone technology, a compliant operator that trains pilots, integrates compliance manuals, distributes and maintains specific drones, and ensures the logistics of data capture and the efficiency of mandates.

It is within this framework that Exo Drone and Thermodynamique have been collaborating with the Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU)since 2018 to implement a solution to carry out these thermography missions byintegrating with current operations so that the drone can showcase all its assets. Having been able to exchange views with all the specialists, we have now developed the procedures and training required for safe operations that do not interfere with forest firefighter practices.

Today, we are proud to demonstrate the full potential of our solution, which met the high expectations of professional firefighters. Thanks to our experienced drone operator and thermographer, the quality of our captures was judged to be verygood.

With this first year dedicated to validating our solution, we're looking forward to the autumn, when we'll be working with AERACCESS' R&D department to develop an even better solution, so we can come back in force in 2021 with even more cutting-edge technology!
