Among the very wide range of possibilities that are possible with a drone, reforestation is one that is more than interesting and relevant in 2021. Given that humanity is struggling with the climate crisis, and that an immense area of forest has been razed over the years, replanting trees is very reassuring for the future of the planet. A multitude of scientists and companies are working to find a solution to reforest the planet.
One young Ontario company stands out from the crowd: Flash Forest. Its goal is to plant a billion trees by 2030! Flash Forest has created its own unique tree seeds: the seed casings are made by Flash Forest with a special combination of sprouted seed and nutrient supplements to nourish the young plant. What's more, these seeds can be planted and nurtured by its fleet of drones!
Since 2019,Flash Forest has invested in research and development, testing drone prototypes to perfect their technique. The company now has 20 employees. In the last two months, Flash Forest has planted 300,000 seeds in Canada!
How does itwork?
First, a drone is sent out to analyze the terrain to determine the best places to plant the seeds. Then, the planting drones are sent out to plant the seeds. They are able to plant them at the optimum depth. Once the seeds are planted, the spraying drones bring additional supplements to the planting area.
