With all the different models available on the market, it can be hard to make up your mind when the time comes to buy one. In this article, Exo Drone suggests a number of questions to ask yourself, to help you decide which model of drone to buy.
What do you plan to do with your drone?
o Recreational use;
o Professional (commercial) use; or
o Both ofthe above?
What's your budget for your drone?
When determining your budget, don't forget to consider certain additional expenses, such as :
o accessories (e.g. cables, charger, carry bag, etc.);
o additional batteries;
o spareparts (e.g. propellers); and
o basic or advanced operations training (if your drone weighs 250 g or more).
Notes :
o Large drones are not always the best choice, if only for transport.
o DJI is not the only manufacturer to consider. Here are some other good drone manufacturers: Autel Robotics, Beta FPV, Skydio, etc.
Once you've answered these questions, you're ready to choose the model that's right for you.
Don't forget to consider the environment in which you plan to fly your device. For example, some models have restrictions on operating temperatures. Obviously, the inside of a home is reserved for very small drones!
Keep in mind that flying a drone is subject to certain laws: be aware of them before you go flying! Also, just because a device weighs less than 250 g doesn't mean it's a toy: young children should ALWAYS be supervised when using a drone.
Buying used?
Finally, if you're thinking of buying a used drone, don't forget to get help from someone who knows something about drones. As with a car, beware of hidden defects and disguised accidents! Also, depending on the age of your drone, make sure you're able to get replacement parts. The drone world is evolving at a phenomenal rate, and some suppliers are discontinuing the manufacture of replacement partsfor their older models.
