Did you know that solar storms can greatly affect the navigability of your UAV?

During a major magnetic storm, solar activity can significantly affect the reliability and accuracy of the GPS system. It can even disrupt your UAV's control signals and compromise its control.

Thus, without the GPS system, your UAV could lose the assistance required for navigation.

Important functions such as: RTH (Return To Home -> Return to take-off point), navigation assistance in the event of loss of control link, position hold, etc. are then no longer available.

Pilot assistance is affected.  The pilot must then ensure the UAV's positioning in its environment, which can quickly prove complex without a minimum of piloting skill.

How can these disturbances be checked?

The planetary geomagnetic disturbance index (Kp index) is used to verify solar activity.

It is therefore advisable to check this index before each flight session and a few times a day.

To check the Kp index, visit the following website:

In the Montreal area, the Ottawa Magnetic Observatory is the closest.

At Exo Drone, during operations, flights are authorized when the Kp index is between 0 and 5 (inclusive).
