Available since June 2, 2021 this application allows you to plan and schedule drone flights, review detailed aeronautical information and request authorization to use a drone in NAV CANADA controlled airspace and all from a mobile device. NAVDrone is available in the App Store and Google Play Store, and will replace NAVCANADA's online Flight Authorization Request form. As of June 9, all SATP flight authorization requests must be submitted in NAV Drone (mobile or web application).
How does it work?
Profile
First, you need to create a user profile by visiting www.navcanada.ca/navdrone.
Next, you'll need to activate your account via a link sent to your e-mail address, and also by validating your cell phone number via a verification code.
The nextstep is to set up your profile, where you can add your contact details and various documents (drone pilot certificate, radio operator's license, etc.).
All pilots wishing to fly in controlled airspace must verify their cell phone number, enter their Advanced Operations Pilot Certificate details and register their drone.
Register your SATP via the equipment tab, and don't forget to add your registration number.
Planning a drone operation
To plan a drone operation, use the create operation button to select the desired city and the positioning circle. Enter all the required information. Once completed, press the validate button. NAV Drone will automatically give you an overview of the regulations in force in the selected airspace.
Don't forget to press the save and publish buttons.
If you're requesting a flight in controlled airspace, you'll see the action required. Then press the record and publish buttons. But that's not all! Click on the Tasks tab, then on the Submit button to fill in the required fields, andfinally press OK. Your request will either be authorized on the spot or forwarded to NAV Canada for further evaluation.
