Here are a few suggestions if you haven't used your drone this winter:
- Are the batteries swollen? Are their connectors corroded or damaged?
- Are the propellers in good condition? They may have major scratches or cracks. Take the time to inspect them carefully.
- Is your firmware (drone, remote control, cell phone or tablet) up to date?
- Make sure your drone pilot certificate is still valid. Maintenance is required every 24months.
- Is your drone registered on the Transport Canada portal, and have you written theregistration number on your aircraft?
Do you think you're still competent to operate your drone?
Perhaps it would be useful to train with a professional. It's important to refer to your drone's user manual and to Part IX of the CARs. We would also add that it's essential to read the most up-to-date aeronautical documentation, the AIM, for legal information, and to consult the Transport Canada website regularly to keep abreast of the latest changes.
